   Dr.Yutaka Tsutsumi was born on September 9, 1951 in Yokohama, Japan, and has three daughters. He graduated from Keio University School of Medicine, Tokyo, and obtained national medical license in 1976. He continued to study as a pathologist in the Postgraduate School of Keio University. In 1982, he received a diploma of the Doctor of Medical Science in the field of malignant lymphoma.

   In 1980, Dr. Tsutsumi moved to the Department of Pathology, Tokai University School of Medicine, Isehara, Kanagawa, as a lecturer. He stepped up to the Assistant Professor in 1986 and to the Associate Professor in 1992. From 1995, he played a manager of the Division of Diagnostic Pathology, Tokai University Hospital, Isehara. In 2001, he became a professor of Department of Pathology, Fujita Health University School of Medicine, Toyoake, Aichi. He is the certified pathologist of the Japanese Society of Pathology, the certified cytologist of the Japanese Society of Clinical Cytology, and the infection control doctor certified by the Japanese Society for Infectious Diseases.

   Dr. Tsutsumi has academic memberships of the Japanese Society of Pathology, the Japanese Division of the International Academy of Pathologists, the Japanese Society of Clinical Cytology, the Japanese Society of Histochemistry and Cytochemistry, the Japanese Association of Pathological Technology, the Japanese Cancer Association, the Japanese Endocrine Society, the Japanese Society of Gastroenterology, the Japanese Society of Gastric Cancer, the Japanese Society for Infectious Diseases, the Japanese Society for Clinical Microbiology, the Japanese Society of Medical Education, the Study Group for Medical Safety, etc. He is the editorial member of Pathology International, Acta Histochemica et Cytochemica, J. of Gastroenterology, Gastric Cancer, Biomedical Research, Applied Immunohistochemistry and Molecular Morphology, Jpn. J. of Clinical Oncology, Igaku-no-Ayumi (J. Clin. Exp. Med.), Byori-to-Rinsho (Pathol. Clin. Med.), Infection Control, etc.

   Dr. Tsutsumi's specialty fields include diagnostic histo- and cytopathology (particularly the application of immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization method), gastrointestinal pathology, endocrine pathology, and infectious disease pathology. He has deeply been involved in the new approaches to medical education in Tokai and Fujita Health Universities. He extended his activity to proposing how to protect patients and hospital employees from hospital/occupation-acquired infections, and how to dispose, reduce or reuse the medical wastes, including organic solvents and fixatives, antiseptics and human tissues. He always seeks the best diagnosis and thus the appropriate therapy for patients.

   Dr. Tsutsumi has published about 200 English-written papers and more than 500 Japanese-written papers. He has contributed as the author of textbooks to the fields of diagnostic pathology, techniques in pathology, biosafety procedures, infectious disease pathology and medical education.

   Dr. Tsutsumi enjoys writing medical essays and also playing oboe with the students' orchestra of Fujita Health University.
