Bone marrow aspirate from the young, manifesting fever, cervical lymphadenopathy, pancytopenia and atypical lymphocytosis (5%). | |||

An activated macrophage phagocytizes red cells and nuclear debris probably originated from white blood cells and platelets (Giemsa). Virus-associated hemophagocytic syndrome (VAHS) is strongly suspected. | ||
