Case 202. Sand flea bite (25 y-o M)
    A painful heel nodule with a central hole seen in a Japanese who stayed in Venezuella

A brown-colored 5 mm-sized adult flea was burrowed just beneath the involved epidermis with central black hole (gross findings).   Histology of the sand flea (Tunga penetrans) demonstrates components of the gut, ovary, ova and striated muscles.

Another painful toe lesion caused by sand flea bite in a Japanese male who stayed in Venezuella (gross findings). Sand flea bite commonly affects the feet of the pig. Human parasitosis is seen in Latin America, Caribbian islands, Africa and south Asia.
