| The proximal renal tubules are necrotic, and also show hyaline droplet degeneration (HE). The disease is called hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS), or Korean hemorrhagic fever. | Hanta viral antigen in macrophages in bone marrow Viral antigen is proven mainly in the epithelial cells and macrophages (colloidal gold method). HFRS is now endemic in China with a mortality rate of 10%. Hemorrhage in the renal medulla, anterior pituitary, skin and left atrium is characteristic. |
