Trichomonas vaginalis, stained bluish, is often attached to the glycogen-rich, orange-colored superficial-type squamous cells. Cannon ball appearance (clustering of neutrophils) is noted (Papanicolaou).   Another view showing T. vaginalis in the background of neutrophilic reaction. It's size is roughly twice of neutrophils (Papanicolaou)
     
 
     
Oil immersion observation of T. vaginalis discloses red-colored fine granules in the cytoplasm (Papanicolaou).   Oil immersion observation of T. vaginalis discloses vacuolated cytoplasm and an eccentrically located nucleus (Giemsa). Flagella is not clearly recognized.
