Gonorrhea is featured by purulent and painful urethral discharge. The glans penis is reddish in color and swollen (Gross findings).   Neisseria gonorrhoeae belongs to the Gram-negative diplococcus, mostly phagocytized by neutrophils on the smear of urethral discharge (Giemsa).

Chancroid (soft chancre) caused by infection of Haemophilus ducreyi. Irregular shaped, painful ulcer is formed on the glans penis (gross findings). Groin lymph noes are often swollen with pain.
