Case 26. Enterobiasis accompanying appendicitis (27 y-o M)
Acute appendicitis resected from a Kyushu resident
Key words : Enterobius vermicularis, acute appendicitis
Numbers of nematode worms are seen within the lumen of the inflamed appendix (HE, low power).   A pair of lateral ala (a wedge-shaped projection of the cuticle) histologically characterizes Enterobius vermicularis (HE).
Cut surface of the pinworm contains the esophagus and maturing ova (HE, high power).   Reference case 26A
Ectopic enterobiasis in the sigmoid colon (15 y-o M, Okinawa resident). The parasite located in foreign body granuloma contains numbers of ova (HE).
